Rating: PG (some implied sexual scenes and kissing, brief nudity)
Summary(imdb.com):
A young man is reunited with a mermaid who saves him from drowning as a boy and falls in love not knowing who/what she is.
My Review:
Some mer-enthusiasts are enchanted by Ariel, while others remember Madison from Splash. With beautiful fins, long golden hair, a fantastic love story and plot, it's easy to see why so many people love Madison.
The movie begins with vintage nineteen-sixties dancers aboard a boat watching Cape Cod. Allen Bauer, a young boy, cannot swim, yet he is hypnotized to jump into the water, where he meets an adorable little mermaid, who holds his hands to prevent him from drowning.
The acting was also fantastic. John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Tom Hanks were so funny, and all of them have classic lines that emphasize their own comedy style. But I can't forget to write about the gorgeous Madison, played by Daryl Hannah. As you know, I have reviewed a variety of mermaid movies on this site, but none of the actresses swim like Daryl. She is so natural in the ocean.
A romance blossoms between Allen and Madison, and it's so sweet and moving that it will bring tears to your eyes. They are a classic mer-couple.
This movie is also known for it's classic bathtub scene, where the viewer sees Madison transform from human to mermaid. This scene inspired other movies, such as Aquamarine. Other mer-performers see Madison as a source of inspiration when creating their tails and photoshoots.
This mermaid movie is a classic that every mer-enthusiasts has in their collection. If you love romance, great mermaid performers, and comedy, I reccomend checking this movie out.
I give this movie (*****) 5 stars.
