The Little Mermaid has been done and re-done a million times, so I always look for ways that writers (or even game writers!) bring a fresh perspective to this classic tale. Cursed Fables: A Voice To Die For is an excellent spin on the tale we all grew up and still love!

The story opens with the protagonist (the player) in her room trying to calm down her pet bird when she gets a knock at the door. We learn that the player is a sea witch, but instead of traditionally being evil, she is kind and uses her powers to help others in the kingdom. A princess has come to the sea witch and begs for help: the prince has been enchanted by an evil siren! Once we accept the princess’s quest, we learn the entire town is under Cecelia’s spell, a siren the protagonist once helped to gain legs (do you see where this is going?)

You learn more of the story and the mermaid/siren’s motivations through the puzzles.

It's up to the player to find out how to break the spell and save the kingdom!

The setting details are beautiful and well crafted, which helps the player become immersed into the story. Some of the puzzles are challenging, but most are relatively easy to get through, so I enjoyed that there was a mix of different puzzles. In many hidden object games, you can find collectibles, and in this one, you can find different mermaid portraits, which were gorgeous!

Overall, this was a fun game with a twist on a classic. It had fantastic visuals, and of course- beautiful mermaids!

I give this game 5 stars.
