My Review:

Hello Merfolk!!!

I know it's been a long time since I've written on this blog. In the last year, I faced some health challenges, wrote a new novel (you can check it out here), and started another book blog on my author website, kylastanyabooks.com. On my other blog, I write about YA books and what novice authors can learn from the techniques utilized by the authors.

But I'm back! I finally visited the beach after years of not going (we live pretty far from the coast) and after feeling the coolness of the waves and tasting the salt, I wanted to get back to my mermaid roots.

So let's dive into this rendition of The Little Mermaid!

Text/Plot: The plot and text in this picture book are a bit simplified for younger readers. Sadly, the plot missed some major details which made the events feel a bit choppy. We all know the story, but I would've loved to see more transitioning events. I was also surprised to see that Ariel's sisters weren't included! This was a missed opportunity for a gorgeous illustration!

Illustrations: The pictures in this book are phenomenal and so gorgeous! They definitely can provide inspiration for artists looking for mermaid poses or color schemes. Take a look at some below:

The first picture with Eric was one of my favorite parts in the live action remake; it shows a connection through adventure and collecting that we never get to see in the original.

Overall, this was a beautiful picture book to add to your mer-collection!

I give this book 4 stars.
