Sofia The First: The Floating Palace*

Rating: G/ TV-Y

Run Time: 50 minutes

Summary(IMDB.com): During family vacation on the King's floating palace, Sofia befriends a curious, young mermaid.

My Review:

Sofia The First and the Floating Palace was a really fun and enjoyable movie with beautiful mermaid elements! The young princess first learns about mermaids in a book, but the adults quickly tell her that mermaids are mythical and do not exist. However, Sofia gets the chance to meet a little mer named Oona!

Oona is adorable. She reminds me of a younger Madison from Splash and she is also curious like The Little Mermaid. After Sofia helps Oona and completes a charitable deed, her magic necklace gives her the power to turn into a mermaid. Like Sofia's dress, her tail is purple and delicate. There was also another funny character named Clover the rabbit, who acts as Sofia's guardian. With the amount of mischief he gets into, I was reminded of Sebastian!

And guess what? Ariel even makes in appearance, played by the original Jodi Benson!

The movie teaches great concepts, such as the value of helping, acceptance, and family love. The only issue I had with the movie is the ridiculous choice of the mermaid queen. Why would you give your youngest child a magical item with the power to control the ocean? That seems like a foolish choice.

I really loved this movie! It was very sweet and cute. The mermaids were also gorgeous. I give this movie (*****) 5 stars.
