Nightmares From The Deep: The Siren's Call Hidden Object Game Review

Game Type: Hidden Object Game

Rating: Not available, but family friendly with very mild violence

How long does it take to play?

  • Depends on how fast you solve the puzzles. I finished the game in 4 hours.

How can I play this?

  • Unfortunately, this game is no longer on Steam, so players may have to explore other options

Hello Merfolk!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season :) I've been busy exploring the depths to bring you new movies, games, and book reviews this year. With the amount of beauty and ocean lore, Nightmare From The Deep 2 is one of my favorite hidden object games.

Plot:

The game opens with a seaside village being invaded by scary mutated ocean creatures that are half human! The player sees a ship watching offshore, helpless to stop the violence. But lurking under the murky depths is the Kraken, and it flails one of its massive tentacles onto the ship to destroy it.

Fast forward, we play as a museum curator of a naval museum, haunted by visions of the ship and the now-deceased captain who is out for revenge. This is a follow up to the first Nightmares From The Deep 1, so some parts of the story might be lost on the player. When a stranger delivers a mystical chest that can be opened by one of the museum artifacts, the player completes a few puzzles to see a picture: a mermaid is captured in a net and is begging us for help!

Suddenly, the fish men creatures from the prologue invade the museum, and the stranger saves us. We also get a glimpse of his webbed hands. We learn that the antagonist from the previous game has captured Calliope the mermaid to gain her power and rule the town with dark magic, and it's upto the player to defeat the curse once again.

Throughout the game, the player must solve a good mix of complex and easy puzzles to defeat the antagonist. Each setting detail is rich in vivid color and dark oceanic scenery, fully immersing the player into this disenchanted world. Calliope the mermaid was also stunning! Her yellow tail reminded me of Madison from Splash :)

I don't want to reveal too much and give away and spoilers, and although it's not available on Steam, full walkthrough videos can be found on Youtube. If you love oceanic lore, solid storytelling, a mix of complex and easy puzzles, and gorgeous setting detail, consider checking out this game or using Calliope as your next inspirational muse.

I give this game 5 stars.
